The Property & Setting
A maximum of 20 guests for any event. This is intentional — we're designed for intimate experiences, not large receptions. Our Ceremony Only package suits everything from just the two of you to a small group, and Ceremony + Small Reception comfortably hosts up to 20. If your guest count is above 20, this likely isn't the right venue for you, and we'd rather tell you that up front.
We're located in Burke County, in the Blue Ridge foothills of Western North Carolina — about 20 minutes from downtown Morganton, roughly 60 minutes east of Asheville, and about 90 minutes northwest of Charlotte. That makes us a natural fit for couples and guests traveling from either side of the state. We don't publish our exact address publicly, but share it with all confirmed bookings and inquiries.
Yes. Each season on the ridge is genuinely beautiful in its own way. Spring and fall are our most popular periods — peak season runs May–June and September–November, so we recommend booking those dates early. Summer sunsets are spectacular. Winter elopements are quiet, dramatic, and increasingly popular. We do factor in weather conditions regardless of season, which is why we have a weather policy in place.
We offer informal site visits for serious inquiries. Reach out through the contact form with your proposed date and we'll do our best to arrange a time that works. We want you to feel confident before you commit to anything.
Planning & Logistics
For peak season dates (May–June and September–November), we recommend inquiring 4–6 months in advance. Off-peak and weekday availability is often more flexible. We host a limited number of events each year by design, so the earlier you reach out, the better your options.
No — you're welcome to bring your own vendors. We maintain a short list of photographers, officiants, and florists we've worked with and trust, and we're happy to make referrals if you don't have someone. All vendors must be confirmed with us in advance and agree to our basic property policies (no driving heavy vehicles on the overlook path, cleanup responsibilities, etc.).
Photography is not included in our packages, but we can connect you with our preferred photographers. We strongly encourage couples to document their day — the setting photographs beautifully, and the images become the most-used thing from your wedding. Just ask and we'll make introductions.
We don't have a commercial kitchen or in-house catering. For food, couples typically bring a catered spread from Morganton restaurants, hire a local caterer to bring food to the property, or plan a meal at a nearby restaurant after the ceremony. We're happy to make recommendations for local dining.
Rehearsal access can be arranged at an additional fee, subject to availability. Most of our elopement couples find they don't need a formal rehearsal — the ceremony setup is straightforward and we walk you through flow and positioning on the day of.
Weather & Policies

The ridge is an open-air setting, and we don't provide a rain structure — so we ask couples to have their own simple backup plan in mind (a tent rental, a nearby indoor option, or simply embracing the forecast). Being clear about this up front is part of how we keep the experience genuinely affordable.

In return, you're protected. If the forecast turns in the days before your date, we'll move you to another available date one time at no charge. If we can't find a date that works for you, we'll refund you, less a small administrative fee. You won't lose your investment to the weather.

And the Mountain House is always there as a warm, dry place for you and your closest people to gather and get ready — not a covered space for all your guests, but a real comfort if the skies don't cooperate.

Your booking deposit is non-refundable. It's what holds your date and takes it off the market for everyone else — that commitment runs both ways. If you need to cancel, any balance paid beyond the deposit may be partially refunded depending on how far out you cancel (full details are in your booking agreement). If it rains and you reschedule, your deposit transfers in full to the new date — it's never lost, just moved. We recommend picking up event cancellation insurance for added peace of mind; it's affordable and covers scenarios outside either of our control.
A few things: No open fires outside the designated fire pit area. No decorations that damage the property or require significant cleanup. No driving on the overlook path. Otherwise, we keep it simple — this is your day and we want you to enjoy it fully.
Lodging & The Mountain House
Both packages include use of the Mountain House on your ceremony day — a comfortable place to get ready and real bathrooms for you and your guests. The Ceremony + Small Reception package also includes a one-night overnight stay, folded into its single all-in price, so the house is yours through 11am the next morning for a quiet evening and the view at sunrise. With Ceremony Only, you're welcome to add an overnight for $300/night.
Additional nights are available and priced case-by-case depending on the date and season. If you'd like the night before your ceremony or to extend the morning after, let us know in your inquiry and we'll quote it for you.
The Mountain House accommodates the couple and a small number of immediate family. For larger guest groups, downtown Morganton has a range of lodging options about 20 minutes away, and we're happy to share recommendations.
Day-of Timing & Logistics
Both packages include access to the property and the Mountain House on your ceremony day for getting ready, with time to set up before your ceremony and pack down after — no feeling rushed. Most ceremonies happen between 3pm and 5pm, but you choose your own time within the day.
For our Ceremony + Small Reception package, guests arrive starting at 3pm and depart by 9pm. This is a firm guest curfew — it protects the residential setting, keeps the evening calm, and respects the neighborhood. Vendors (caterer breakdown, etc.) are off-property by 10pm. For a Ceremony Only booking with a small group, the window is shorter and entirely yours to design within the day.
Checkout from the Mountain House is 11am the morning after your ceremony. That gives you a peaceful first morning on the ridge before heading off — coffee on the deck, no rush.
Vendors can arrive starting at noon, coordinated with you. Most caterers and florists do their bulk of setup in the 2–3 hours before the ceremony, and photographers often arrive earlier for getting-ready shots at the Mountain House. We don't curate or supply vendors — you bring your own — but we'll work with whoever you choose.
Practical Details
The property has on-site parking for the number of guests our packages support. We'll share specific directions and parking details with all confirmed bookings. For micro-weddings with the full 20-guest count, we recommend carpooling to keep arrival smooth — the approach road is private and scenic, not a high-traffic lane.
Secluded Ridge is a non-denominational venue and welcomes couples of all faiths and backgrounds. The wooden cross on the ceremony overlook is a permanent architectural feature of the property — one that many couples find meaningful, and one that others simply treat as part of the rustic backdrop. It is not required to be part of your ceremony in any way. You design the day.
The ceremony overlook is on elevated terrain with a gravel path — it is not fully ADA-accessible, and the approach involves some uneven ground. Most guests navigate it comfortably, but we recommend reaching out before booking if you have specific accessibility needs so we can walk you through the layout and help determine if it's the right fit. We want every guest to experience the day fully.
Yes — live music and sound systems are welcome. Acoustic instruments, small Bluetooth speakers, and modest PA setups all work well on the overlook. Some of our favorite ceremonies have had a single guitarist. Others played a curated playlist through a Sonos speaker. Both were perfect.
